Living your life in day tight compartments isn?t exactly a new philosophy, it first caught the attention of Sir William Osler long before he was knighted ? In fact the idea came to him when he was still a medical student at Montreal General Hospital. At the time he was worried about his ability to pass his final exams and whether he had chosen wisely when opting for a career in medicine. This is the same William Osler who went on to become the most famous physician of his era. He went on to organize the world famous John Hopkins School of medicine and later became Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford. But just like you he had day to day doubts about his ability to rise to the top.
It was in the spring of 1871 when he read 21 words that were to change his life and take him from medical student all the way to the top of his profession. The twenty one words were the words of Thomas Carlyle: ?Our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand.? Those twenty-one words became the guiding beacon of Sir William Osler and I have to admit I carry them around with me at all times and refer to them whenever there appears to be a mountain of tasks awaiting my attention.
Some years later Osler was on board an ocean liner travelling to Europe when he noticed how when the ship?s captain ordered emergency drill a series of water tight doors were closed and it was these compartments that were formed that gave birth to his ?Day Tight Compartments? theory. From that day forth he taught his students the theory of living life in day tight compartments where they shut out all thought of yesterday because they could not change anything that happened in history. Also to shut out all thoughts of tomorrow because that is the future which nobody can foretell.
This left the focus entirely upon today from within the day tight compartment meaning that all energies are tightly focused upon the job in hand.
As an internet marketer I have used these compartments to focus on the now because the only thing within my control is the now, I cannot change history just as I cannot foretell the future but I can manage the tasks necessary to achieve my daily goal.
To achieve success I focus on having the right equipment [software/tools] available to speed up the tasks set for today and the winning mindset of: ?I live for today and thoughts of yesterday or tomorrow are solely for the procrastinators seeking an excuse for inaction today."
To succeed you must be organized and you will become more organized and focused from within day tight compartments.
The philosophy of working within a day tight compartments is not a new philosophy, in fact it was first used by one of the most eminent medical teachers of modern history.
