Deserving Success

Whether you are deserving success or failure in life the call is firmly within your own grasp. As regular readers are aware I?m a great believer in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) with a specialization in peak performance. Each day I learn more and hear more excuses not to succeed than I hear desire to succeed. It really gets boring after a while.

So what is it about humans who will happily watch a movie about people succeeding and then walk out and start talking about all the reasons why we could never achieve that level of success? It?s truly a baffling phenomenon about the way we are programmed up to think. On one hand we?re excited and motivated as the movie character moves from adversity to success; then as soon as it?s over we?re looking or reasons why it can?t be done by ourselves. You know the typical comments:

- ?That?s fine in a movie!?

- ?If only real life was like that.?

- ?If I tried that I?d be broke and starving within a month.?

I could make a hundred similar quotes but you get the idea by now. Put simply people spend more time finding reasons for not deserving success than they do for succeeding.

Nelson Mandela once said ?we more frightened of what we can achieve than what we can?t achieve.? He was speaking to a race of people still fighting for basic human rights and probably wasn?t aware that the same applied to 99.99% of humans worldwide. So why are we, as a race, so scared of success? What made us this way?

Our parents must accept a major share of the blame because in trying to protect their special child they try to steer a middle of the road path where it is better to be a public servant with a regular wage than be an entrepreneur who may make billions but could also fail many times along the road.

Schools teach negativity in life; the role of a teacher is much simpler if everybody can be fitted into the same box. Naturally this box is again the box for the mundane.

Is there any university anywhere in the world that runs an entrepreneurs program? Certainly not, that subject remains in the too difficult basket. A business degree from Harvard Business School has produced thousands of Vice Presidents but few Presidents. In fact the number of successful business presidents is ominous by the massive proportion of non-university graduates.

So what is the difference? What makes a person successful? What is deserving success?

First you must acknowledge that the human brain is still the most powerful computer known to mankind. As long as it takes man to produce new, more powerful, computers the human brain remains the most powerful.

Once you can perceive your mind as a computer you need to decide what is your RAM (Random Access Memory) and which is your long term, or hard disk, memory. RAM is available on your desktop and handles all the routine instant tasks required. What must never be forgotten is that RAM is only a very miniscule part of a computer. In your brain RAM is commonly referred to as ?The Conscious Brain? and the hard disk is referred to as the ?Sub-Conscious Brain?.

Einstein was once misquoted as saying: ?People only use 10% of their available brain power.? Rather than argue with such an eminent person let?s accept his 10%:90% proportion as accurate. In that case our conscious brain represents 10% of our knowledge and handles all the mundane day to day survival functions. Our sub conscious brain is where creativity exists and represents 90% of our brain function. It is within this 90% that success and achievement delves. We must learn to access our sub-conscious mind before we can ever reach the stage where we are truly deserving success. How to access our sub conscious mind will follow in the next article.

Are you deserving success? The more you learn about what makes you function the sooner you find the links to take you to where you wish to be.
